Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS) is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current foster parent licensing, relative approval, and approvals for adoption and guardianship processes. ChildNet provides Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS) to families across the South Bay. RHAS seeks to streamline and eliminate the duplication of existing processes by unifying approval standards for all caregivers, regardless of the child’s case plan. The program includes comprehensive orientation, home environment checks, and training for all families, to better prepare them to meet the needs of vulnerable children in the foster care system. One important benefit of the program is the seamless transition to permanency.
The RHAS process improves the way caregivers (related and non-related) of children in foster care are approved and prepared to parent vulnerable children, whether temporarily or permanently. RHAS focuses on family and reaffirms the commitment to serving children, youth and young adults by connecting children to their family and building lifelong relationships.
